Advertising, a Poem
By: Sara Stuckey
What used to be a glance at a billboard
Now is studied carefully
I no longer trash all the inserts in my newspaper
or immediately flip channels when the commercials come on the TV
And playing this rich media on repeat
is going to cause animation in my dreams
Working with sports teams representing a sponsor
Makes going to the ballpark a lot more fun
Creating Excel documents may not be thrilling
but without them, organization goes out the window
Never did I think I would listen to theme songs and radio spots on repeat
but now it surely competes with my favorite Pandora station
POP used to be something I drank
But now it’s in the form of cardstock and window clings
I usually write strategy documents and summarize meeting minutes
But today, I wrote this poem about advertising
